[Alternative ending starts a few paragraphs down, I will mark it. These first few paragraphs are the same as the first ending. Also a warning; THIS ONE IS SADDER.]
A cold wind swept across the peak of Big Ben as the two demons waited in silence. Ciel, struggling to keep his eyes firmly up at the moonlight sky, instead of the sickening plunge below, tried to keep his mind of the horror unfolding. Silently, he prayed that the demon wouldn't drop him out of boredom and impatience. He wasn't ready to die. He had almost died before, when his parents had been brutally slaughtered in that horrific fire, he didn't want to go through it again. Below, the giant clock slowly turned its hands one more step towards half past midnight. Then silence. Ciel had never knows a silence so tense. The demon watched, and waited.
"My, look who's finally decided to join us, my little one" Ciel looked up, following the demons sharp gaze to a small ridge just below them. The figure crouched low around the points and edges of the tower, glowing eyes blazing up at them. Although this new demon was clad in black, Ciel instantly knew who it was.
"Sebastian" He breathed, though not in relief. If Sebastian was here, then the demon would drop him and he'd plummet to his death. But he couldn't help but smile weakly down at him. After all, Sebastian had put up with a lot because of him, yet had still come every time. His loyal butler, and father. Sebastian slowly stood, his eyes wandering from Ciel to the demon. Ciel should see his fists clenching. The demon let out an insane-fuelled cackle.
"Here he is my little one! Here's the slug I'll crush" His hand wavered dangerously around Ciels wrists, making the boy swallow, snapping his eyes shut as the ground began to wave below, as if calling for him to fall.
"You'll do no such thing" Sebastians cool, smooth voice answered. Slowly opening his eyes, Ciel watched Sebastian calmly make his way up; obviously aware that this demon could be angered easily in his spiral to the pit of madness "I'll be taking my Ciel back now" The two fully grown demons were now facing one another, their fiery eyes locking. The demon smirked.
"Oh, I won't be giving you my little one anytime soon" He sneered "He's mine. My little ones souls and he are mine" Sebastian tensed as Ciel was brought into the demons arms, the demon rubbing his head against Ciels, much like a mother cat to her kitten "He's my little one" The demon whispered to himself "He's mine"
"He isn't yours" Sebastian growled "And he never will be" Sebastian leapt forward, arms starched for Ciel. He came within inches until the demon ducked beneath him making Ciel give a cry of shock. Sliding along the ledge he picked himself up, Ciel still in arms. Sebastian flipped round, his breathing fast with his fury, his teeth flared.
"If that's how you're going to play" The demon nipped Ciels ear, making the boy whimper "It's time to say goodbye, my little one"
He flung Ciel over the side, letting go of the young demon completely.
[ALTERNATIVE ENDING STARTS HERE]
Time seemed to slow down for Ciel. The demons hands slowly released their tight grip from his wrists, sending him down
down. All sound was thick around him, as if he was drowning in a giant, smothering ocean. He reached out his arms
but to what? What was there to grab? Not even that spider's web, which Ciel had prided himself on clasping all those years ago, was there to take hold off. He let his arms fall limp as he plummeted towards the ground.
"Tell you what, I'll read to you until you fall asleep. Tonight's a treat, isn't it?"
Suddenly, her smiling face appeared before him; her soft smile and delicate lips beaming down at the small toddler she was dressing for the day, humming a small tune to herself as she slipped the buttons into their holes. "There we are" She grins, picking him up. He lets out an excited squeal as she raises him above her head, laughing with him.
"It's Aunty Ann!"
The scene changes, settling upon the small group picnicking in the grand garden on the Phantomhive manor. Ciel and Elizabeth both scamper from their food, running over to the gleaming woman in red. His parents are laughing. He had never felt happier. He also laughs as his aunts red hair tickles him as she picks him up.
Red. Red takes over. A rich, fiery red. Ciel is running down the maze of corridors inside the house.
Smoke fills his lungs, but he pushes on. Swinging open the door to his father's study, he screams.
Pain. Intense, brutal pain. Everything is black in the curtain covered cage.
"He's a beauty, how much?"
Each scene is flashing before him faster, faster.
"No, please, stop" He screams, he cries, he begs. A metal rod with a flat patterned end lies over a fire, getting hotter, hotter. He thrashes, kicks, bites as a knife is held over him. He's losing hope.
"You have summoned me, that fact will not change for all eternity"
Blood. Red, crimson blood. It flies from her mouth is showers as she collapses to the floor, her red clad killer standing over her.
"It's over, Madam Red"
Ciels eyes begin to fog, as if someone had breathed on a window he had been peering through. He's running around on all fours, casing after a ball of wool and mewing happily. Black-hair man is standing over by a bookshelf, a small sad smile on his face.
The corridor is dark, almost completely black except from the moonlight whispering in through the windows. He crawls along, his ears firmly back behind his head, as he makes his way down the Black-hair man's room. Nudging the door open, he spies the exhausted figure collapsed on the bed.
Hopping lightly onto the bed, he nudged Black-hair man's face. Black-hair man stirs, wine-red eyes looking up at him.
Black-hair man smiles, wrapping an arm around him "Only for tonight"
Everything begins to speed up again, faces flashing before him: Alois, Claude, Angela, Grell, William. Realisation hit Ciel. This was it. This right now was the end of his life. Each face seemed to merge into the next: Elizabeth, Agni, Prince Soma, the Servants, Tanaka, his parents, the demon, the Devil
Sebastian. He was going to leave Sebastian
Suddenly, the world around him sprung to life, time suddenly going into overtime. The tower of Big Ben loomed over him.
The entire back of Ciel cracked on impact; his head, his back and his legs. An agonising numbness powered through his body as he shook on the cold pavement. Hot, thick blood oozed from his body, making a halo around his head. Chest-heaving coughs rattled his body, red liquid spraying from his mouth.
"Ceil? C-Ciel please, look at me" a distraught voice pleaded. Gentle hands cupped his face. Everything around him was beginning to fade into nothingness, but his eyes managed to lock onto the older demon, who was sobbing above him.
bas..tian" Sebastian only sobbed harder.
"Shh, I'm here, I'm right here Ciel"
cr-y" It was getting harder to get the words out, but Ciel was determined to say what he needed to say "Pl
"No Ciel, don't speak like that. Please" Sebastian whispered, stroking Ciels hair. Despite the horrific pain he was in, Ciel smiled.
g-one" Even Sebastian was disappearing now, everything sinking into black. With one last push, Ciel struggled his last ever sentence out "Th-ank
Ciel sat up and slipped away from his body. Standing, he turned to face Sebastian, who seemed to be frozen above his corpse.
"Ciel?" His hands slipped under his body, brining it close to his chest "No
you can't be
"Sebastian's mouth gaped in silent sobs as tears ran down his face. Ciel walked over, wrapping his ghostly arms around the other demon.
"You made me happy Sebastian" He whispered "Happier than I've been in a long, long time. Remember that." He smirked as his own tears fell "One more thing. Kick that bloody demons butt for me" As a bright, white light consumed him, the last words Ciel Phantomhive, the boy who had seen his parents deaths, been tutored, but had somehow found happiness, ever heard were:
"Yes, My Lord"
